Leah Scott has been an integral component of the Herd’s 11-5 start to the season as she leads the team in scoring at 14.2 PPG, while also ranking second on the team in rebounding (6.7 RPG) and assists (2.2 APG). Scott was named Conference USA Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Conference USA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance in conference home wins over FIU and FAU. Scott scored 19 points on 7-14 FG and 5-5 FT while also grabbing six rebounds in the victory over FIU. Two days later she scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds against FAU.
Scott is a versatile forward who can handle the ball, rebound, defend and knock down perimeter shots. Her greatest strength, however, is her ability to score in the paint on hard drives to the basket and quick spins on post-ups. Scott is adept at getting to her left hand and shielding defenders to finish at the rim.
Head coach Matt Daniel on Scott’s maturation: “She’s really matured off the floor in how she has handled things. Its helped her in how to handle success and she’ll be the first one to tell you that our team success has led to everybody’s individual success.”
Teammate Norrish Victrum on Scott’s personality: “She’s relaxed but once you get to know her she’s silly like the rest of us. She’s laid back…she’s gonna do what she needs to do and pretty much relax.”
